For years I’ve been collecting random issues of comics from comic book shops and conventions, mostly based on the covers, however this year I’ve actually started to properly get into them. I also renewed my library card this year, which has resulted in weekly trips to the library and leaving with piles of books and comics!

On my last trip, I picked up two books and two comics one being a Vertigo title that I’d never heard of before – Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love!
Now I’m a HUGE Cinderella fan and I even cosplayed her a few years ago, so when I spotted this I just had to get it! I was intrigued about seeing one of my favourite Disney princesses as a spy, living a type of double life with people assuming she’s globetrotter when really, she’s “Fabletown’s greatest covert agent – a master of espionage with centuries of experience”

“Fashionista, socialite – spy! Hey, if the shoe fits”

This was a really fun comic taking everyone’s favourite fairy tale characters including The Beast, Aladdin, Rapunzel and Puss in Boots with this whole new spin on the characters that so many of us have grown up with. Another thing I loved was how the comic switches between present day and past, allowing the reader to learn more about the characters and how they have evolved and grown in Fabletown.

I’ve read and seen a handful of Cinderella re-tellings, I highly recommend Geekerella by Ashley Poston, but Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love was so different and fresh – completely different to anything I’ve seen before.

I loved how Cinderella was portrayed; I saw one person on Goodreads compare her to Black Widow and I have to say I really do agree!
I can’t wait to get stuck into volume two and I’ll definitely be keeping my eye for more Fabletown comics!

“I don’t believe in ‘happily ever after’, not anymore. but if the best I can manage is ‘happily for the moment’, then it’ll have to do”

If you like classic characters with a twist and a little bit of mystery I’m sure you’ll love Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love!
