This year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the incredible, beautiful masterpiece My Neighbour Totoro(1988), so we decided to look back at the incredible world of Studio Ghibli and with the help of our wonderful Twitter fans we cast our votes. Who will take the top spot? We’ll find out soon enough!

(my personal #1)- In a world of high fashion and high society, quiet Sophie is a rare find. She is cursed by a spiteful witch to take the form of an old lady and the only chance to break the spell is to seek out the infamous Howl and his moving castle.

Recommended if you liked: Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986) or Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Princess Mononoke

Our hero Ashitaka is cursed by a powerful vengeful spirit bringing death and destruction in retaliation to the destruction of the forests. On his journey he finds himself in the middle of this war between the forest golds and mining colony, but also meets San, the Mononoke Princess.

Recommended if you liked: Pocahontas (1995) or FernGully: The Last Rainforest(1992)

A young witch and her delightful cat companion Jiji inkeeping with traditions leave home and head of in search of a new City in which to spend a year. Kiki struggles to find her place in the big city at first but soon finds her feet setting up her delivery service.

Recommended if you enjoyed: Wolf Children(2012) or The Girl who Leapt Through Time (2006)

When two girls move to the country to be near their ailing mother, they have adventures with the wondrous forest spirits who live nearby.

Recommended if you enjoyed: Any of the above films!

It is no surprise that Totoro came in first place, it is an iconic film that has been referenced many times within popular culture and has so much to offer to the viewer no matter their age, gender or background!
